What Can It Do For You?
Pilates/Core Work elongates muscles through stretching and strengthening while avoiding the use of heavy weights. As a result, the participant develops toned, lengthened muscles that provide a stable core from which to move.
Pilates is most beneficial when performed one on one or in small groups with a trained instructor. The instructor evaluates the participant, screening for postural deviations, level of flexibility, and strength of specific muscles. The instructor then leads the participant through a series of exercises chosen to balance the body as a whole.
Pilates/Core Work gently opens the body, engages the mind, encourages proper breathing and strengthens the “powerhouse” to protect the back. Core Work also impacts the lymphatic system by internally “massaging” the core structures, boosting drainage of the deep pathways in the mid section of the body. This region, frequently stagnant from years of inactivity, poor nutrition and illness, is typically an area of abdominal bloating and heaviness in the legs.
