Ultrasound
Ultrasound (MHz) is a gentle modality frequently used in combination with manual therapy and exercise. A gel covered soundhead is passed along the skin near the area of pain or tightness. By using a slow moving sound head, high frequency (not audible) sound waves create increased blood flow through vibration of the deeper tissues. It takes 3-5 minutes for a therapeutic effect. When the ultrasound gel is infused with an anti-inflammatory medication,
the technique known as phonophoresis transports the medication to irritated areas without the use of needles. Thus making phonophoresis a very effective alternative in decreasing fascitis and tendonitis pain symptoms.
