The latest guidelines from the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery call for controlling your home environment by getting rid of dust mites, installing an air filter system, using bedding with allergen-barriers, and keeping any pets out of the bedroom to help curb nasal allergies.

  3. A humidifier can keep the air moist, but be sure to keep it clean, especially if you have mold allergies.  Thirty-five to 50 percent humidity is ideal.

  4. Apply warm compresses.  You can also follow up the warm compress with a cold compress, which may help relieve sinus pain.

Clean countertops and surfaces  with one of the cleaners below, these can also be used to spray them directly.

  • Vinegar

  • Vinegar & Water (50/50 mix)

  • Cider Vinegar & Water (50/50 mix)

  • One of these essential oils: Peppermint, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree Oil, Witch Hazel Extract (1 tablespoon) plus water–per spray bottle

  • Liquid Dish Detergent & Water (about 1 tablespoon detergent, fill spray bottle with water).

An interesting tidbit is that ants leave a scented trail so they can easily find their way back to the the food source in your home or office. Their trails can be both visible and invisible to human eyes, so washing away these trails will make it more difficult to find their favorite places. Using these cleaners with the above ingredients also has a repellent property.
