According to the CDC about 1 in 5 U.S. adults lives with chronic pain. Chronic pain can limit work, exercise, sleep, and social life. It can also increase the risk of anxiety, depression, and physical inactivity.

Back pain is another major reason people seek physical therapy care. Low back pain is widely recognized as one of the leading causes of disability and is one of the most common reasons people miss work or visit a health care provider.

What people do not realize is that physical therapy can also play a role in fall prevention. The CDC reports that 1 in 4 older adults falls each year in the U.S. Falls can lead to fractures, hospital stays, and loss of independence. Physical therapists can provide programs for strengthening, balance and gait training, as well as vision-related movement challenges to minimize fall risks.
